The Artist
Claudia Smith is an artist and educator based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Claudia’s artistic practice is rooted in a deep reverence for photographic history, art history, and the intergenerational transmission of information. She approaches image making as a form of inheritance, an ever-evolving dialogue between traditional craft and contemporary technique.
Drawing on her extensive technical foundation and her passion for the photographic medium, she seamlessly weaves analog and digital methods, honoring the tactile, meticulous labor often associated with “women’s work” while expanding its meaning within modern visual culture. Each piece becomes an act of reclamation: of stories passed down, of techniques nearly forgotten, and of the labor—visible and invisible—that shapes lives across generations.

Claudia holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Imaging Arts and Sciences from the Rochester Institute of Technology, where her commitment to technical mastery and conceptual depth formed the foundation of her artistic voice.
The Educator
As an educator, Claudia is dedicated to fostering a deeper appreciation for art and history among her students and community. She regularly incorporates her artistic practice into her teaching, encouraging others to explore the connections between visual art and personal narrative.
Claudia Smith is an Adjunct Professor within the School of Visual Communications at Ivy Tech Community College.
She currently teaches Photography I, Photography II, Video Sound Design, and Studio Lighting.
She has previously taught Photography I, Photography II, Advanced Photography, and Broadcasting Video Production at the High School Level.
Mr. Smith is an orchestra director & educator, while Jeff & Lucy are avid sleepers.🐾
